Extensions

See which PostgreSQL extensions your Plexivo Postgres database can use, and add them with one statement as your app user.

PostgreSQL extensions add data types, functions and indexes to your database. Your database’s app user owns the database, so it can add any extension that PostgreSQL lets a database owner create.

See what you can add#

Connect as app, for example with psql over plexivo db connect, and run:

sql
select distinct name
from pg_available_extension_versions
where trusted or not superuser
order by name;

Every extension in that list can be added by your app user. This is the same rule Plexivo uses when it moves a database in from another provider.

Add an extension#

sql
create extension if not exists pgcrypto;

Run it over your own connection: the console’s SQL editor does not run extension statements. In a migration from your server, add it as one of the steps.

Extensions you cannot add#

An extension that is not in the list above cannot be added by your app user. These include vector, and monitoring extensions such as pg_stat_statements, which need a superuser.

Extensions and upgrades#

Before a major version upgrade, Plexivo checks that your extensions are supported on the new version, and updates each one after the upgrade. See Versions and upgrades.
