Releases, redeploys and rollback

See what each Plexivo App Runner app is serving, deploy again, and roll back to an earlier release in one step, by hand or automatically.

A release is a version of your app that Plexivo App Runner confirmed serving. Plexivo keeps your recent releases, so you can see what ran when and go back to any of them.

See your releases#

The app’s Deployments tab ends with Serving releases, newest first. Each row shows the release number and image digest, when it started and stopped serving, and How it got there: Deploy, Rollback or Automatic rollback. The Overview tab shows the release Serving now.

A build that succeeded but never became ready is not a release. The release that was serving keeps serving.

Deploy again#

Use this after a failed build, a secret rotation, or a new tag of your image. On the app’s Settings tab, or with Deploy at the top of any app page:

  • From Git: in Repository and build, choose Redeploy, then Rebuild. Plexivo builds the latest commit of the branch.
  • From an image: in Image, choose Deploy again, or enter a new reference and choose Deploy this image.

The current version keeps serving until the new one is ready. You can deploy again while the app is running or after it failed.

bash
curl -s -X POST $API/deployments/$APP/redeploy \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $PLEXIVO_TOKEN"
# 202: {"deployment": {…}, "building": true, "build_id": "…"}

Roll back#

  1. Find the release. In Serving releases on the Deployments tab, find the one you want.
  2. Roll back. Choose Roll back and confirm. The app restarts on that release’s image.
  3. Check it. It counts as serving once Plexivo confirms it ready, and appears at the top as a Rollback.

A rollback runs the exact image that served before, so nothing is rebuilt. Your environment variables and secrets stay as they are now.

bash
# Recent releases, newest first
curl -s $API/tenants/$ORG/deployments/$APP/releases \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $PLEXIVO_TOKEN"

# Roll back to one of them
curl -s -X POST $API/tenants/$ORG/deployments/$APP/releases/$RELEASE/rollback \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $PLEXIVO_TOKEN"
# 202: {"rolling_back_to": {"number": 7, "image": "sha256:…", …}}

Automatic rollback#

If a new release fails to become ready, Plexivo points the app back at the release that was serving. It checks once a minute, so the rollback starts within about a minute of the new release being marked failed. It shows as Automatic rollback, and the failed build’s reason is on the Deployments tab.

Delete an app#

In the Danger zone of the Settings tab, choose Delete app…, type the app’s name and choose Delete app. This removes the app, its builds and its custom domains, and cannot be undone. To stop it for a while instead, pause it.

For enterprises Every redeploy and rollback, by a person or by Plexivo, is recorded in the audit log. A rollback records the image it moved from and to.
