Plexivo MySQL backups and restore

Plexivo MySQL takes a full backup every day and archives binary logs continuously, so you can restore to any second into a new database.

Plexivo MySQL backs up your database from the moment it is created. You can bring back your data as it was at any second within your backup period, into a new database, while the original keeps serving. Your data and its backups stay in India.

How backups work#

  • Daily full backups, the first one as soon as the database is created, kept for the number of days you chose in Backups kept.
  • Binary logs archived continuously, so recovery reaches any second in that period. This is always on.

By default, each plan keeps backups for up to:

PlanBackups kept, at most
Developer7 days
Startup14 days
Business30 days
Enterprise35 days

Before a large change, such as a plugin update or an import, choose Back up now on the Backups tab. You can take at most one every 15 minutes.

Restore to a point in time#

  1. Open Backups and find Restore to a point in time.
  2. Pick the moment in Restore to, in your organisation’s time zone, up to about five minutes ago.
  3. Name the copy in New database name.
  4. Check the price with See price, then choose Restore into new database.

A restore always creates a new database, so your site keeps running while you check the copy. Point your app at the copy, or copy back the tables you need. The new database is priced and billed like any other.

Undo a bad updateIf a plugin or a migration damages your data, restore to a minute before it into a new database, check the copy, then switch your site’s settings to it.

Deleted databases#

When you delete a database, its backups are kept for 7 days by default, as the console tells you when you delete it. Contact support within that time to restore it; after that, they are deleted for good.

Your own copy#

Take a copy whenever you like with mysqldump over the Plexivo CLI tunnel:

bash
plexivo db connect shop-db
# in a second terminal, on the port the tunnel printed (3306 unless it was taken)
mysqldump -h 127.0.0.1 -P 3306 -u app -p --ssl-mode=REQUIRED --single-transaction --set-gtid-purged=OFF app > shop.sql
