Create your first database

Create Plexivo Postgres or Plexivo MySQL, choose its size and backups, and connect from your app over TLS.

Plexivo Postgres and Plexivo MySQL are managed databases with automatic backups and recovery to a point in time. Plexivo looks after the servers, patches and backups; you look after your data.

Create the database#

  1. Start. Choose Create at the top of any page, then Plexivo Postgres or Plexivo MySQL.
  2. Name it and pick a version. Enter the Database name and choose a Version. The recommended version is marked.
  3. Choose its size and recovery. Under Size and recovery, pick the Database size, the Storage, how long Backups kept should be, and whether you want a Standby with automatic failover (some plans include one). The form shows the connection limit for the size you pick.
  4. Check the price and deploy. The Estimated monthly cost is shown on the right. Choose Deploy; the button carries the database’s name.

How long backups can be kept depends on your plan; see Compare every limit on the pricing page.

Connect from your app#

Open the database and choose the Connect tab. It shows:

  • The Connection string. Choose Reveal to see it with the password, then Copy. When the database also has a private address, you choose between Public · external backends for anything outside Plexivo and Private · apps in this project for your apps and Kubernetes workloads in the same project.
  • Once revealed, the CA certificate (Download CA certificate for Plexivo Postgres, CA certificate for Plexivo MySQL), so your client can verify the database it connects to.
  • The details your client needs: the port and database name, and whether connection pooling is on (Plexivo Postgres); the host, user, database and connection limit (Plexivo MySQL).

Give the connection string to your app as an environment variable, for example DATABASE_URL, ideally from Plexivo Secrets. Any PostgreSQL driver or ORM works with Plexivo Postgres, and any MySQL driver or ORM with Plexivo MySQL.

Decide who can reach it#

On the Network tab, under Access, choose Public, with TLS or Private. If your plan includes them, you can limit public access to Trusted networks: the IP addresses you list. Choose Save network access. A private database is reachable from your apps and Kubernetes workloads in the same project, the Plexivo console and the Plexivo Postgres Data API, and from your laptop through the Plexivo CLI.
