Backups and point-in-time restore

Plexivo Postgres backs up continuously. Restore to any moment in your backup period into a new database, or export your data.

Every Plexivo Postgres database is backed up continuously from the moment it is created. You can bring back your data as it was at any moment within your backup period, into a new database, while the original keeps serving. Your data and its backups stay in India: in Mumbai, with a second copy in Hyderabad.

How backups work#

  • Continuous. Every change is archived as it happens and reaches the backup within about five minutes. This is always on.
  • Full backups. Plexivo takes a full backup every night, and one as soon as a new database starts.
  • Kept for your backup period. You choose how many days in Backups kept when you create the database, up to your plan’s maximum. Older backups are then deleted for good.

See your backups#

The database’s Backups tab shows Continuous backups, how long backups are Kept for, the earliest time you can Restore to any time since, and the Last full backup, with every full backup listed below.

Before a large change, choose Back up now for an extra full backup. You can take one every 15 minutes.

Restore to a point in time#

  1. Open Backups and find Restore to a point in time.
  2. Pick the moment in Restore to, shown in your organisation’s time zone. Any moment from the earliest restore point to about five minutes ago works.
  3. Name the copy in New database name.
  4. Choose See price, then Restore into new database.

A restore always creates a new database, with its own password. Your current database keeps running unchanged, so you can check the copy, then point your app at it or copy back the rows you need. The new database is priced and billed like any other.

Undo a mistakeDropped a table or ran an update without a filter? Restore to a minute before it into a new database, and copy the rows back.

Deleted databases#

When you delete a database, its backups are kept for 7 days by default, as the console tells you when you delete it. Contact support within that time to restore it; after that, they are deleted for good.

Export your data#

Your data is always yours to take. On the Backups tab:

  • Under Export your data, Export now prepares a standard PostgreSQL dump that pg_restore reads. When it is ready, choose Download.
  • Scheduled export to your bucket sends one daily or weekly to any S3-compatible bucket you own.
For enterprises Keep 35 days of recovery, and add a scheduled export to a bucket under your own control for a copy that you hold.
